Located in the southern village of Rivière des Anguilles, la Vanilla nature park unfolds a sanctuary hosting species such as Nile crocodiles, Alligators, Aldabra and Radiata tortoises from Seychelles and Madagascar respectively, macaque, iguanas, bats, deers, geckos, and wild boars are also part of the reserve.
Its insectarium uncovers the world of butterflies and insects within a large private collection. Mr. Jacques Siedlecki the conservative of this collection has spent more than 30 years to collect these species of insects, Paguroidea from all over the globe.
The Vanille nature park of Mauritius features also an Aquarium, a tortoise museum, an ammonite fossils museum including an incursion in the world of Mauritian marine mammals. The exhibition route also include whale’s skeleton. Seal, dugongs among others. For children a thematic jungle adventure has been created.
The park host the largest number of tortoises reared in the world.
The restaurant “Le Crocodile Affamé” proposes a variety of elaborated Mauritian dishes made with crocodile meat such as fritters. A la carte you may order various menus, including crispy, steak, curry and barbecue.
Take a change of scenery and enjoy the basaltic cliff of Gris Gris where the forces of wilderness blend sea and land together.
