Geologists have discovered traces of ancient volcanic rocks in the sands of Mauritius. They formed about 1.9 billion years ago and existed as a small, long-vanished continent on the site of the modern Indian Ocean. Scientists maintain that this micro-continent, Mavrica, consisted of modern India, Madagascar and some other islands. The continent disappeared 83 million years ago.
